York Minster
The York Minster is a Cathedral and is located on Deansgate, York, YO1 7HH being only within a 15 minute drive from our family lawyers in York.
The Minster remains a church allowing worshippers the opportunity to worship and prayer. The minster has attracted visitors from all around the world for over 1000 years. The traditional and ancient building is made by handcrafted stone and medieval stained glass telling a story of Jesus Christ.
Opening Times
Please note the Minster is opened for worship daily from 7.30am to 6pm. However the Minster also offers a museum and shop facility which are also open daily.

Daily Worship Services
York Minster allows daily worship services. At least once a day the service is sung by the Minster choir. York Minster is also able to cater for different events including weddings, baptisms, civil partnerships and funerals.
The Undercroft Museum
The museum contains digital displays and artefacts which narrates the story of Yorks history which covers a time span of 2000 years. It also contains the historic collection of the Museum which have never been on public display before.
The Library
The York Minster is a home to the largest library in the country which covers subjects such as local history, church history and architecture, Civil war tracts and theology. There are over 90,000 volumes within the library and they can be searched through an online catalogue which is available through the University of York Copac which covers the holdings of the UK’s national libraries.
Minster Tours
The York Minster provides free tours which are run on a daily basis and also allows the option of climbing the Central Tower which is the highest point in York. The Minster also envourages children and younger people and even provide an explorer backpack for children which provides activities and gadgets to help make the adventure memorable.
Minster Shop
A Gift shop is situated within the minster to allow for the purchase of gifts. The shop is opened daily. People can also access the shop online. The Gift shop provide a worldwide with profits contributing to the upkeep of York Minster.
Children and York Residents
The York Minster caters for children and allows up to four children free with one paying adult. York residents and students can also enter free providing they can support this with evidence.
Family Visits
The York Minster caters and encourages families to visit and worship. The Minster provides baby changing facilities as well as breastfeeding facilities located within the Minster.
Downfalls of the York Minister
The Central Tower does not have wheelchair access so maybe unsuitable for visitors with mobility requirements. In order to compensate and cater for people there is a handrail which can be used to climb the 275 steps in order to reach the Tower.
The tower trips are dependant on the weather and can only be bought at the Minster. The positive of this is that whilst visiting if the weather does not permit the Tower Tour you do not need to pay the additional price to Climb the Tower.
The York Minster does not have a café or restaurant however food and drinks can be purchased from nearby outlets. If you are driving it is only a 10 minute drive from the infamous Cineworld.
