The York Dungeon
The York Dungeon revolves into the 2000-year history of York and is only within a few miles from our family lawyers in York.
The Dungeon takes you on a journey lasting 75 minutes. This takes you back to the history of York. In doing so this brings out iconic characters and uses sets and special effects to allow you to understand the real story of York. It is a historic location included within the York Visitor Guide 2019.
Tickets
4 sets of tickets are available online which can either be:
- Standard entry ticket,
- Extra Value Ticket
- Sunday Saver Ticket and
- York Dungeon Late 18+ ticket.
It is recommended to book tickets online as the website offers a reduction in prices compared to walk up prices. Concessions also apply to children tickets. Group discounts are also available for groups of 10+. The York Dungeon also caters for schools and offers prices of £5.95 per pupil with free teacher places.
What to Expect from The York Dungeon
During the historic tour you will see sets and shows which portray the story of York in a fun and interactive way. You will witness 10 live shows and will understand better the 2000 years of York’s history. The York Dungeon Tour will also help you understand the history of some famous icons such as Guy Fawkes, The Vikings and Margaret Clithorow. There is also a souvenir photo opportunity to allow you save your memories from the tour and an also option to upgrade to an additional 1 hour city tour.

Tavern
You can visit Ye Olde Yorke Inn on the conclusion of the tour where a range of drinks and snacks can be purchased.
Shop
The York Dungeon has a shop from which you can purchase a wide range of goodies to remember your and capture your experience. The Shop is also accessible via Cumberland Street and offers gifts all year round.
Photography and Filming in the York Dungeons
Personal photography within the dungeon is not allowed. However before beginning your journey into the Dungeon you will have a photograph taken together with other visitors. Please note this photo is optional and not compulsory.
Where to find The York Dungeon
The York Dungeon is easy to find and is located opposite the Grand Opera House. It is close by to the Clifford’s Tower.
What are the downfalls of The York Dungeon?
The York Dungeon is unable to accommodate electric Wheelchairs due to the layout and historic structure of the building. In order to accommodate this the Dungeon does provide a manual wheelchair for guests which can be borrowed during the tour. Visitors with mobility requirements are urged to book their tickets early since the tour can only accommodate one wheelchair user per tour.
The York Dungeon does not provide any parking for visitors and neither does it have parking for Blue Badge holders. The nearest car parks to the York Dungeon are the Castle Car Park, York, YO1 9RY and and Piccadilly Car Park, Piccadilly, York YO1 9NX.
