The York County and Family Court is within the city centre of York. This Court hears the following cases:

Opening Times for York Family Court

Please note although the Court building is opened from 8.30 am to 4.30pm Monday to Friday, the Office is only accessible between 10:00am to 2:00pm Monday to Friday. You may want to check seasonal court opening times.

What are the facilities at York County and Family Court?

There is an array of facilities being;

This facility is available to be utilised providing it is arranged prior to the hearing and can also be linked from prison to the court.

Public Toilets

Public toilets are located within the Court and they also provide accessible toilets for people with restrictions.

Private Interview Rooms

Private rooms are available for individuals or families who may want to discuss something in private amongst themselves with their representatives. These rooms also allow you to quietly reflect and make notes you may require.

Baby Changing Facilities

The York County and Family Court also caters for babies and small children. As this Court also listens to family cases baby changing facilities are also available and can be utilised. The Coppergate shopping Centre and York Designer Outlet also located within a 10 minute drive from the court which allows visitors to plan their journey and how to utilise their time.

The Court also provides vending machines on site which can provide refreshments for visitors.

Do you need a family lawyer in Court

What are the downfalls of the York County Court and Family Court?

The internal lift is currently out of order which could make it difficult for people with mobility requirements to navigate around.

The York County Court and Family Court does not provide any parking for visitors. However, parking is available at both Peel Street Car Park and Piccadilly Yard Car Park which are both at a driving distance of 1 minute and is located nearby.

Please also note delays may be possible when entering the premises given that searches are conducted to ensure the safety of the Courts staff and visitors. You may therefore want to plan your journey in advance to factor in the time it may take to queue up and be searched before entering your hearing or tribunal.
